I have a new story out with Blood+Honey titled ‘Defenestration’. Thanks to editor David for publishing it.
It started as a piece of flash fiction and for a long time was done at the 500 word-ish mark. I started work on it again after watching the first episode of Adam Curtis’ series Shifty in June 2025. This first episode opens with Thatcher and Saville in Downing Street ushering a group of children into a room. Another influence was a documentary about Tatler which you can find on YouTube.
Sam Cam thank you man. When I was growing up, it was the Coalition, the London riots, Gordon Brown calling someone a bigot as he settled into the back of a car, unaware that he was in fact miked up, and the Large Hadron Collider.
This story was originally called ‘True Blue’ and was probably a more straightforward joke about Tories and Englishism. As it grew, the time jumps took over for a while. It needed work. But I’m pleased with it. I know you’re not supposed to be proud of your own work, but I think this is probably my favourite story. This is just to say, it’s out there now, and I hope you read it and get something out of it.
